The main question in the first part of this small book is whether a rapist is born or made. A segment of evolutionary biologists argues that rape is a product of biological evolution and has an adaptive value. In other words, that the rapist is born. What are the arguments and how valid are they? Sociology supports the opposite: the rapist is made. It is a product of a society that educates and habituates individuals to violent and exploitative behavior, even if it advises them – and sometimes punishes them – for the opposite.
Fortunately, there is also the field of Ethnology and Anthropology, which indicates that there have been societies where rape was rare to nonexistent. It's worth examining them. Since they existed, who knows, they may exist again.
In the second part, we will deal with the opposite of rape. We usually call it consent. However, to consent means to accept, tolerate, or compromise after examining the arguments. Love, however, is not that rational, and if it happens, it is not love but a social convention and a marital duty. That is why the more accurate term is spontaneous and mutual romantic desire. Because it better describes the craziness of love.
So, we will see what Biology says about the origin of this ancient human trait. We will see what is called love. And fortunately, in this matter, Biology does not reduce everything to Darwinian dominance of the stronger.
