The companion volume to Evans's book "Wines of Northern Spain" explores the wide variety of wines produced throughout Spain. Starting from the east with Catalonia, the book travels south along the Mediterranean towards Levante. The heart of Spain, including Madrid and La Mancha, is examined before reaching Andalusia in the south and heading towards the Balearic and Canary Islands.
The covered regions could not be more different, separated by language, customs, history, as well as gastronomy and wines. After a chapter on the fundamental grape varieties, Evans explores each region in turn, relating its history, investigating current trends in winemaking and viticulture, and profiling key producers. There is also a chapter dedicated to Spain's sparkling wines.
