The story of Mary Tudor – the eldest daughter and child of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, sister of the famous Elizabeth I – told as never before. A chronological narrative framework follows her almost miraculous journey, starting from her "first memory" at the age of two and reaching the point where she became the first queen to inherit the throne of a turbulent England.

Mary, who was rejected at birth, was convinced that the cause of her suffering was the rejection of her true faithful doctrine: Catholicism. Her relentless campaign to restore the Catholic faith in England was relentless, leading to her being dubbed “Mary the Bloodthirsty.”

The Tudors used famous works of art to define their reign. Using expressive line and rich watercolor, the German illustrator harnesses the artistic allure of royal life and reveals the tragic loneliness of the crown.

German draws from real excerpts of historical documents and letters, as well as dramatizations of famous historical events. These details immerse us in the legendary life of Mary I, from her turbulent childhood to her tragic end, depicting a striking portrait of a “queen of bastards” losing her grip on power.
