Black Tea
Black tea accounts for 75% of tea consumption worldwide and is the most popular type of tea globally. It is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis shrub, through an oxidation process that turns the leaves from green to a dark brown-black color. Oxidation means that the leaves are exposed to moist, oxygen-rich air.
Black tea is used by many people as a substitute for coffee. It has more caffeine than green tea and many drink it for an energetic wake-up. It also contains the stimulating substance theophylline.
