The SKC hand tap set includes three tools for cutting internal threads in metal surfaces. No. 1, with 8 to 10 chamfered threads at the tip, makes it easier to start tapping in unprepared material, while No. 2, with 3 to 5 chamfered threads, is intended for general use and for threads that do not extend to the bottom of the hole. No. 3 is used to cut threads to the bottom of the hole.

Before use, drill a hole with a rotary drill, with a diameter larger than the tap’s core diameter and smaller than the major diameter of the desired thread. A tap wrench or tap ratchet can be used to turn the tap, and cutting oil helps make the process easier.
