The difference from the "regular" acoustic guitar is that the electro-acoustic guitar also has a preamp with an integrated equalizer for treble, midrange, and bass. This allows it to be directly connected to an amplifier, which is why it is preferred for live performances.

Like any acoustic guitar, it is commonly played with a pick, unlike the classical guitar which is played with the fingers.
