In the fictional city of Mississippi, St. Petersburg, lives a boy named Tom Sawyer. He has a brother, Sid, who is kind and obedient, and an aunt, Polly, who has caused him much suspicion. It is immediately clear that Tom is not such a good student. Whenever he gets punished, he manages to slip out of trouble, often coming out ahead.
One night, he jumps out of the window and goes with his best friend, Huckleberry Finn, to the cemetery trying to find the antidote for the bellyaches. Hidden among the graves, they witness a crime, which the perpetrator, the terrifying Injun Joe, blames on the innocent. From this point, the reader will discover that the mischievous Tom is a clever boy who, faced with various dangers, will fight for justice.

Mark Twain (1835–1910), American author, essayist, and humorist. Born in Missouri, Samuel Langhorne Clemens left school at the age of 12, forced to make a living after his father's death. He lived an adventurous life and traveled all across America, working as a typesetter, gold prospector, steamship captain on the Mississippi, and war correspondent during the American Civil War, when he also adopted the literary pseudonym with which he became famous as a writer: Mark Twain.
