Description

Synthetic absorbable surgical suture made of polyglycolic acid (PGA) is used for holding and closing soft tissues, including ophthalmic surgeries. It is not indicated for cardiovascular and neurological surgeries.

After implantation, moderate local tissue inflammation and gradual encapsulation of the suture in fibrous connective tissue are observed.

  • Gradual loss of strength and mass due to absorption through a hydrolysis mechanism.
  • Initial loss of strength without significant loss of mass.
  • Remaining strength > 75% at the end of the second week.
  • Remaining strength > 35% at the end of the third week.
  • Complete absorption in 50 – 90 days.
