Purchase March 2026, I recently moved into my own place with my partner and, like any man who respects himself, I didn't want to make compromises when it comes to entertainment (within reasonable limits, of course). The previous TV I truly enjoyed was a Samsung QLED, entry level model we bought in 2019 at my parents' house and it was essentially the first smart TV. That's where I first saw colors, HDR content and learned to watch Netflix, Disney+, etc. So from the start I was looking for an 'upgrade', I didn't want to go for Samsung again since I had heard amazing things about Dolby Vision, something unfortunately not supported.

For a month I watched foreign reviewers comparing TVs and most of them had something in common, they could now confidently recommend mini LED TVs, even saying they come very, very close to OLED black levels but at the same time have much higher brightness and are not at risk of burn-in (a rare issue but real). In general, I am a person who always tries to make the best possible purchase with my money and so I ended up with the C7K, realizing after crunching the numbers that I would have to pay at least 30% more if I wanted to say I was getting something better than mini LED, and even then with reservations. Note that I do not watch the unacceptable Greek Digea channels at all, I use Apple TV 4K and watch everything via internet TV and the SwipTV app.

The TV is amazing in every way, from the design and its stand to the speakers. Of course, when it comes to picture, I thought I was watching movies and HDR content with the old QLED, but once I set up the C7K, everything changed... The black is PERFECT, if you look at a black background with the lights off you can't tell the TV is on (there is a bit of blooming but that's normal due to the panel), the colors are incredibly vibrant, the clarity is fantastic... Whatever I've watched has truly left me speechless, I often play HDR videos on Youtube which, despite all the processing and compression they've undergone, leave me open-mouthed every time... Movies with HDR/Dolby Vision (do yourself a favor and watch the movie 'F1 Movie' sometime and you'll understand what I mean) are literally a cinematic experience, sports, gaming on PS5 Pro... Everything is flawless... Even the speakers left me fully satisfied at first (a soundbar will be purchased soon) but in a small living room like mine the sound 'travels' on the walls and you feel like the neighbors are knocking...

On the downside, I would like slightly better viewing angles but honestly guys I can't even deduct half a star for that, it's the panel technology's fault and not the TV's... The purchase was made at €650 from a well-known retail chain and I consider this panel and mini LED technology in general the sweet spot... I'm not saying it's better than an OLED but if you put it next to a €1,300 OLED, the OLED is not in any way twice as good as TCL's mini LED...

Bravo to TCL!

Coming from an LG NanoCell 55", the transition to the TCL C7K 75" was truly impressive. The difference is not only in size but mainly in picture quality.

The QD-Mini LED panel with advanced Full Array Local Dimming offers very high brightness and clearly better contrast compared to the NanoCell I had. Blacks are deeper and bright scenes have much greater intensity without losing detail. In HDR and Dolby Vision content, the TV really shows its capabilities, with intense highlights and very good color gradation.

The colors are rich and vibrant thanks to the Quantum Dot layer, while the overall image has very good clarity and depth. In movies and series, a quite cinematic experience is created, especially on a large 75-inch screen, which is ideal from a distance of about 3 meters.

Another important advantage is the 144 Hz panel, which makes motion very smooth. In sports and gaming, the image remains clear without blurring, while support for VRR, ALLM, and 4K at 144 Hz makes it a very good choice for next-generation consoles.

Google TV is fast and easy to use, with all the basic streaming apps available. The overall user experience is very good and the TV responds quickly to commands.

Overall, I believe the TCL C7K offers very high picture quality for its price category, with strong brightness, very good contrast, and modern features for movies, streaming, and gaming. For anyone coming from an older LED or NanoCell TV, the difference is truly significant.

Coming from the legendary Panasonic Viera P55ST60 (which still works and replaced the P50ST60 in the bedroom), one of the best plasmas ever released (and a reference point for blacks and motion), I was quite skeptical as to whether a modern Mini-LED could measure up—even with compromises.

In the end, the TCL C7K 55" not only measured up, but for the ~€650 I found it for, it turned out to be an UPGRADE in capital letters.

Picture – Brightness – Local Dimming

The first impression is the brightness. The C7K is truly comfortable in HDR, without needing to "squeeze" settings or see dark highlights. The 706 local dimming zones may not sound like a lot on the spec sheet, but in practice they work properly.

The blacks are very good for Mini-LED. Not OLED-level, nor plasma-level, and yes: the LEDs do not turn off completely. But unless you sit and look at test patterns in a pitch-black room, you only notice it if you pay very, very close attention. After the last firmware update, the strange brightness "games" in dark scenes have also been eliminated, which initially concerned me.

Sound & Connectivity

The built-in speakers are simply decent—better than you'd expect in this category, but obviously do not replace an external system. Personally, I have connected Logitech Z906 via Toslink, while also getting Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI from Windows, so I have proper 5.1 everywhere without struggling with formats and passthroughs, and of course, there is no need to upgrade my sound system to something that works with HDMI. In this area, the TCL is hassle-free.

Comparison with C8K / C9K

If the budget allows, the TCL C8K and TCL C9K play on another level mainly due to dramatically more local dimming zones. There, black control is noticeably improved. Nevertheless, the C7K does not seem "poor"; it is simply a more balanced price/performance choice.

Consumption – Temperature – Real Life

Here is where the biggest difference from plasma is.

The Panasonic had a steady consumption of 200–400W, heated the living room in winter, and in summer made the inverter air conditioner ramp up within minutes.

The C7K ranges from 50 to 180W (180W only at 100% white panel in HDR), with an average consumption of 80–100W. The difference in the environment and the bill is so noticeable that if you still have a plasma, the upgrade pays for itself from the electricity savings.

Conclusion

The TCL C7K is one of the best budget TVs in its category. It is not perfect, it is not OLED, it is not plasma—but at the price it sells for, it offers excellent brightness, very good black management, stable HDR, and modern formats without drama.

For me, coming from a legendary plasma, I did not regret a single euro.

The TCL 55C7K offers a very bright picture that comes close to the OLED category, mainly in contrast and black, while surpassing it in brightness at a much lower price. With Mini LED and Quantum Dot technology, it achieves beautiful, deep blacks and impressive HDR. It supports modern formats (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos), has good built-in sound, and is also suitable for gaming with 144Hz VRR and HDMI 2.1.

Since previous reviews have already detailed the above, I add the following thoughts:

● The sound is good for a TV, especially in smaller rooms, and can substitute for a simple soundbar, but of course does not replace a serious audio setup.

● Google TV operates quickly and without lag.

● Good after-sales support from TCL: the TV I received was replaced because there was dust inside the panel (a manufacturing defect), which created a small visible mark on the image.

Possible minor weaknesses are as follows:

■ Network limitations: 100 Mbps ethernet port (but this can be overcome with an aftermarket USB ↔ ethernet adapter of higher bandwidth), WiFi 5 (sufficient for streaming, but version 6 or 7 is the modern standard, focusing on efficiency in areas with high network density).

■ Non-illuminated remote control

In any case, with its capabilities, it is hard to find a more complete proposal for this money in this specific price range at this time. The C7K meets (in this range) even the needs of more demanding users. Overall, it is a strong and complete package.

⭐️ Review: TCL C7K - The answer to OLED (and not only!)
I come from a simple 6-year-old Toshiba LED TV and the transition to the TCL C7K was a real revelation! The difference is literally night and day.

A huge advantage of the TCL C7K, unlike many competing models (e.g. Samsung), is the full support of all HDR formats:

Dolby Atmos (for sound)

Dolby Vision (which is the best HDR available, something like HDR premium) and Dolby Atmos have become the standard for almost all new series and movies on Netflix (and other streaming services) and the difference in picture quality is HUGE!
But your subscription must be the most expensive one at 16 euros to get 4k Dolby Vision on Netflix (PAY FOR IT, IT'S WORTH IT!)

+ Surprisingly Good Sound
Even in sound, the TV pleasantly surprises. Its built-in sound (Bang and Olufsen) is equal to or better than a simple 2.0 soundbar costing 50-70€, making it ideal for those who do not want to invest immediately in a separate sound system. However, it is not hi-fi or home cinema... spend the 300-400 euros you save from not buying an OLED and get a very good soundbar (with atmos and sub etc.) and the result will reward you.

+ Game Ready: Support for Gamers
The TCL C7K is not just a TV for movies—it is also an excellent choice for gamers, especially those with next-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X):

For cinematic viewing on the TCL 98C7K, the recommended picture settings are as follows: Use "Movie Mode" or "Filmmaker Mode," as they offer the most accurate color reproduction and appropriate temperature for dark viewing rooms. Set the brightness to a moderate level to avoid overexposure, usually around 20-25 for SDR environments in medium room lighting. Set the contrast to maximum or near maximum to take advantage of the panel's full HDR range. Turn off dynamic contrast and dynamic tone mapping to avoid distortions. Set color temperature to "Warm 5" for natural color reproduction. Set gamma to 2.2 for proper shadow and light rendering. Enable local dimming to "High" or "Max" for better contrast and deep blacks. Turn off any motion smoothing or settings that add artificial motion processing (such as MEMC) to maintain the authentic cinematic feel. Use Dolby Vision mode when content supports it for better HDR quality in movies. These settings will deliver a realistic, vibrant image with good contrast and faithful color reproduction, ideal for watching movies in a dark or moderately lit room

I recently bought the 55'' model and my conclusions so far are as follows:
+Extremely bright TV both in SDR and HDR/Dolby Vision
+Very balanced picture quality with pleasant colors and very good tonality
+Very good motion and smooth image in sports content
+The mini-LED technology has advanced quite a bit compared to older models I have experience with (Samsung QN85A(2021)). Blacks are at a very close level to OLED, blooming is noticeable only with effort, but overall, the contrast and black levels of OLED in normal viewing conditions can't be matched.
+Google TV operating system is a big advantage and very smooth and fast in its operation.
+The sound is at levels where some people won't need a soundbar. Of course, the more demanding will prefer to invest in sound, but especially if their space is a small living room/room, it might make them consider saving the extra expense.
+Rich TV in what it offers for gaming. Up to 120hz on PS5, 144hz in 4K for PC gamers, and for the more competitive among them, 288hz in 1080p. I think the C7K ticks all the boxes for gamers.
- Expected negative for a VA panel: viewing angles. From 25-30 degrees, the loss of contrast and color accuracy becomes noticeable. For larger viewing angles without loss in picture quality, OLEDs remain the only way.
- 2 out of the 4 HDMI ports are 2.1, but one of them is e-Arc. This means that if someone has a console, a computer, and a soundbar with Dolby Atmos capabilities, they will have to sacrifice console or PC to a simple HDMI port to enjoy Dolby Atmos on their soundbar via e-Arc.
- The upscaling could be a bit better but remains just at the edge of satisfactory.
Final conclusion:
A very good TV that will satisfy everyone who wants a TV both for a very bright room and for a darker one. Bright, excellent blacks, very good sound, top choice for gaming, of course Google TV, and above all its price!
At a price of 630 euros at this time, it easily competes with TVs of 1000++ euros. With the disadvantages being minimal, such as viewing angles (expected due to panel type), upscaling (perhaps the most significant disadvantage for me), and the HDMI ports (even the SONY BRAVIA8 II at 2000 euros has exactly the same HDMI setup), I can't help but consider it the best value for money out there right now. Truly an EXCELLENT all-around TV.

As soon as you turn it on, the first impression is truly impressive. The colors are very vibrant and “full,” while the image looks clear and easy on the eyes even after several hours of viewing.

The menu responds immediately, and the overall user experience is fast and smooth. The sound is also better than expected for built-in speakers, which makes using it without a soundbar quite decent.

It connects easily with services like Vodafone TV and works flawlessly with PS5, where the gaming experience is truly impressive, with smooth motion and without annoying stutters or “breaks” in the frames. The image does not strain the eyes and maintains good clarity even in fast scenes.

Compared with older TVs, even high-end 4K ones, the difference is noticeable and makes the previous experience seem quite more “old generation.”

Despite its large size, it feels relatively light and has a solid build. Overall, this is a very strong purchase, especially at the ~€1800 price point, offering a truly superior experience for movies, TV, and gaming.
