“The revised guide by Bonnie Keilty is my primary resource for families, professionals, and students. The latest edition expands on an already excellent book with the most recent policies and evidence-based recommendations. This is a valuable resource that ensures families have a voice and are at the center of Early Intervention services. No matter how many copies I have in my library, it's never enough.” —Susan Fowler, Director, Illinois Early Intervention Clearinghouse
“Supporting and empowering parents to help their infants and toddlers with delays and/or disabilities learn and develop is key to future successes. Bonnie Keilty's holistic work in the new edition of the Early Intervention Guide for Families and Professionals will help ensure that Part C in Early Intervention nationwide remains focused on its work for families.” —Roxanne Romanick, Founding Board Member, Early Intervention Family Alliance
The guide to family-professional alliances has been used as a key resource for Early Intervention in university courses for the professional development of practicing professionals, and as support for families who are in or considering participation in Early Intervention. This new edition has been fully revised to reflect recent research and respond to feedback that the author gathered from users of the first edition, including professionals in the field and academics.
By emphasizing how families and professionals can work together effectively to help infants and toddlers (0-3) learn, grow, and develop, the chapters address child learning and development, family functioning and priorities, Early Intervention as a support measure rather than a substitute, and planning for what comes next after Early Intervention.
The book also specifically analyzes key components of Early Intervention—assessment and evaluation, program planning, intervention implementation, service coordination, and transition. This practical guide uses stories from families participating in an Early Intervention program to illustrate key concepts and provides checklists that readers can use to assess their experiences in Early Intervention.
