"This work by Gabriel Kouris, who belongs to the newer generation of health scientists but already has a significant track record in the field, offers an important lesson-example of health policy to all those willing to continue producing scientific documentation, the utilization of which can contribute to the upgrade of the health system in our country."
[From the Preface of the book]
This book aims to contribute not only to highlighting the historical value of expert reports —and consequently their "monumental" significance— but primarily to the multifaceted understanding of the framework for designing and implementing health policies in Greece during the 20th century, combined with the emphasis on the duration of the discussion concerning the major issues of health policy in our country and the importance of the normative character of the findings and conclusions of the reports for any attempt at health reforms in the future.
Gabriel A. Kouris, Author, Doctor of Health Policy
The analysis of the content of the Reports included in the book is indicative of both the problems faced by the health system in Greece and the prevailing perceptions surrounding health policy during the reference period. In this sense, it serves as a useful tool for studying the "adventure" of the health reforms attempted in the country and for evaluating the factors that led to the failure to implement the proposals that have been submitted by the scientific community over time.
Kyriakos Souliotis, Professor of Health Policy, Dean of the School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Peloponnese
This study revisits the most important expert reports on health policy compiled during the 20th century, presents the context in which each report was prepared, summarizes its content, and assesses its impact on the organization and functioning of health services. Of particular interest is the analysis of the content of the reports based on specific methodological and scientific criteria, a fact that contributes to a further evaluation of the methodology and completeness of each report.
