Description

Description

Lagavulin 12 years has a complex and wonderful nose, full body, and a good balance between peat, fruit, and iodine. The high alcohol content of 54.5% makes it call for a little water, and its addition makes it smoother, tempering the bitter smoke and bringing out sweet notes of fruit, pepper, and oats.

Aging in American oak endows it with vanilla aromas, while the palate recognizes flavors of ripe fruits, such as greengages and plums, always accompanied by the peat derived from the water used in the distillery.

The 16-inch one doesn't even reach its little finger. Aggressive and "green". Don't judge the quality by the price. Get two 16-inch ones to make a "resurrection" (or Christmas, depending on the occasion).

Whiskey Station (which we used to buy for 50-60€ per bottle)...
If you haven't tried it, I hope you get the chance to fill this big gap in your whiskey experiences.
For special moments, with or without company.
Heavy and smoky, it definitely won't appeal to everyone, definitely not for every occasion.
Paired with small pieces of dark chocolate (for health), the experience is elevated.

    4.5/5
I tried the 2018 bottling, each year's bottling is something different. This one? A nose that takes time to "open up" but clearly peat, salt, sea air, citrus and even artificial bakery scents... Taste: explosion! Dark flavors first: dark chocolate, dark honey, salted caramel, citrus and freshness that continues in the aftertaste... it continues for a while, the finish has infinite duration with all the flavors circling as you feel the dark sky opening up and a sunshine washing over the flavors. Maybe I'm exaggerating but definitely with the first sip, my eyes rolled back, alone in the living room with a glencairn glass in hand

I want to share with you my experience with this whiskey!!! For a while now, I had my eye on acquiring a special limited edition of Lagavulin. Well, I got it!!! It's a 12-year-old and not the classic Lagavulin 16-year-old. The difference lies in the fact that it is natural cask strength, meaning it is bottled exactly as it comes out of the barrel when opened, at 57% alcohol by volume, without any other processing, unlike the 40 to 43% that all the others have. It is an aromatic smoky whiskey, with an incredible amber color and an unparalleled explosion of flavors on the palate. Whatever I say is not enough... I am enjoying the first glass and feeling enchanted. Of course, I have to admit that it is for seasoned whiskey drinkers, as the excessive alcohol can be unpleasant for some. Naturally, as you can imagine, such "works of art" are not to be spoiled with ice, water, soda, etc. I hope someday you get the opportunity to try it!!!
