If you like Speyside and classic whisky as you knew it in the 80s and 90s, you will love it. It reminds a lot of its neighboring Speyburn (but much more aromatic and full-bodied) and also reminds quite a bit of its distant Loch Lomond original (impressive since the loch is not Speyside based). It is not at all alcoholic in aroma and has a strong toffee flavor with hints of lemon and cardamom, which is a combination not very trendy for Scots but very classic for past decades. It may remind a lot of the 80s and 90s because it was a malt for the blends of Justerini & Brooks, so if you were drinking J&B, it was definitely part of the palette. Somewhere inside, you will also discover a little pear, very typical for the region (for others, apple) that you encounter there in the valley and especially in the classic and beloved Glenfiddich. If I would buy it again, the answer is probably no. I would prefer a Glenfiddich 12 to save easily 11 euros without discounts (you can easily find it in supermarkets for 27 euros) or if I felt more posh or the temperatures were very low, I would prefer to pay 6 euros more to go for a Glenfiddich 15, which in my opinion is by far the best aging for this classic.
Nice, wintery, ideal for evenings by the fireplace with dried figs. It is recommended and worth a try.
