A charming Greek romanticism narrated by its hero. Achilles Tatius was a Greek from Alexandria in Egypt and is believed to have lived in the second century A.D. We know nothing about his life, although Suetonius mentions that he became a Christian and a bishop, and wrote a work on etymology, one on the sphere, and a reference to great men. However, he is famous for his surviving novel in eight books, "The Adventures of Leucippe and Clitophon," one of the best Greek love stories.
Clitophon recounts to a friend the various difficulties he and Leucippe had to overcome before they happily united. The story is filled with incidents, and readers are kept in suspense. There are many digressions that offer scientific facts, myths, reflections, and more, the interest of which alleviates the irrelevance.
