Description & Specifications

The complete trilogy by French comic artist Jacques Tardi presents a human and biographical portrayal of his father’s life as a soldier during World War II. When French tank crew member René Tardi was captured by the Germans on May 22, 1940, his life changed forever. He is transferred to a prisoner-of-war camp, Stalag IIB, where he endures a harsh daily existence for nearly five years. After the arrival of peace, he faces a long and painful journey back to France, strengthened only by the vision of his wife, Henriette, waiting for him at home. In the final act, René struggles to adapt to civilian life, forced to re-enlist and return to Germany to help rebuild the country that imprisoned him. In The Complete I, René Tardi, P.O.W., Jacques Tardi powerfully captures the painful story of his father, a tale enriched with his own childhood memories.
