The Hartmann plaster bandage has an inner bandage made of synthetic cotton with non-absorbent polyester fibres in a crepe weave. It retains its elasticity under continuous mechanical stress and heavy fluid flow, while remaining breathable and permeable to wound exudate.
It can be applied without wrinkles and is easy to put on or remove by hand. It is steam-sterilised at 121 °C and is radiolucent.
