It may be useful to have a recorded educational history of a place. I felt it was my duty to contribute in this direction, after all, as a small gesture of memory to my predecessor colleagues and directors of secondary education in Kissamos, but also as an effort for documentation. Thus, a first attempt has emerged and is presented to record the secondary educational reality of Kissamos over the last 100 years or so. This building has housed and continues to house many students of secondary education in the Kissamos area for many years.

An effort was made to systematically record various information such as important historical milestones and events, the number of students, promotion data, names of teachers, former principals, flag bearers, photographs from each period, housing issues, etc. As all of this is part of a broader local reality and a wider national framework of educational policy (laws and reforms) of the successive governments, an attempt was made to document some basic relevant references.

The title of the book mentions HISTORICAL ELEMENTS OF THE 1ST GYMNASIUM OF KISSAMOS, because essentially, secondary education was previously entirely accommodated in the old but magnificent tiled traditional building that currently houses the 1st Gymnasium of Kissamos. Of course, ultimately, secondary education ended up being housed in other parts of the city and indeed in a different form from the original historical six-grade Gymnasiums (see three-grade Gymnasiums and three-grade General and Vocational Lyceums). And a second reason for the title's naming is that in the presentation of data from recent years there is more focus on the 1st Gymnasium of Kissamos.
