The Vigor2136 of Draytek is a router, a device that connects other devices (e.g. computer, mobile, television) either wirelessly or with a cable, and shares internet access. It needs to be connected to a modem to access the internet. The device has the ability to configure a VPN (Virtual Private Network) so that traffic from all devices on our network passes through it. The VPN acts as an intermediary between us and the rest of the internet, giving us the ability to appear geographically in another country and the pages we visit see the VPN address as the visitor's address instead of our own. This provides us with anonymity and access to content with geographic restrictions. VPN services are usually paid with a subscription.

With MAC address filtering, it allows specific devices to connect based on their unique MAC address, excluding any device with a MAC address that has not been defined as acceptable.

    1) Very stable for corporate use.
    You set it up, put it in place, and forget about it.

    Disadvantages:
    1) It has terrible QoS management for bufferbloat.
    2) It has terribly high ping in games (+20ms) for no apparent reason.
    3) It does not show you the CLI commands of your setup, which means you cannot replicate it on another machine or even check what changes have been made since the last time you tweaked something (this is very important because you are always left wondering).
    4) You cannot do everything from the CLI (e.g., Wake-On-Lan), so to automate your tasks, you have to use the GUI.
    5) It does not have many capabilities if you want to do complex things, e.g., set up a softphone on Windows when you have FTTH from Nova.

    I bought it for around €150 and I still regret it.

    In the end, I bought the MikroTik RB5009UG for €220, which is a more powerful device and does everything correctly (except for broadcast relay between different VLANs, but the 2136 didn't do that either).
    It's harder to set up, but if you can't do it yourself, it's worth paying a technician €50 to set it up for you.
