Description & Specifications

October 48 BC: Caesar lands in Alexandria, only to discover that his great rival, Gnaeus Pompey, has fallen victim to murder at the hands of the followers of King Ptolemy of Egypt.

September 47 BC: Caesar returns triumphantly from the East to Rome to settle outstanding matters there. Between these dates, a series of events unfolds across many different points of the then-known Roman world, showcasing numerous prominent figures. The most significant of these and the decisive factor in the developments is Gaius Julius Caesar himself.

Initially trapped in Alexandria, with insufficient forces and tormented by countless adversities, he is called upon to achieve not just survival but also to restore order in the tumultuous East. These events are included in the work De Bello Alexandrino, the translation of which into Greek is presented in this book, in an effort to make more obscure adventures of Julius Caesar after his triumphant victory at Pharsalus accessible to the public.

Publisher Historical Quest launches the new series "The Wars of Caesar," which aims to connect the Greek audience with historical texts that detail Caesar's path to the conquest of supreme power. This volume is the first part of a three-volume translation work by scholar Christos Anagnostou, which aspires to make the military adventures of Caesar, which ultimately led him to seize supreme power in Rome and to his premature death under the blows of the conspirators on the Ides of March 44 BC, more widely known.
