    They are usually lighter compared to full-face or flip-up helmets to be comfortable for the rider. They are not recommended for riding in the city or on highways.

Features

  • This lightweight helmet features a thermal-injection shell that incorporates a special blend of polymers reinforced with varying degrees of thickness, designed to provide the optimal combination of impact protection and lightweight.
  • The lightweight outer shell is made from a technologically advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic in three sizes (Youth Small, Youth Medium, and Youth Large).
  • Separate shell versions for DOT and ECE requirements: the DOT-certified version of the helmet's inner shell is made with composite fibers assembled between the outer shell and the EPS liner for maximum impact protection.
  • The fit can be customized to the rider's head thanks to the helmet's crown and pads, which are available as replacements in different thicknesses.
  • The sizes Youth Medium (YM) and Youth Large (YL) share the same EPS size, allowing riders with YM size to initially purchase a YM helmet and then upgrade to a Youth Large size as they grow through the crown and cheek pad replacements.
  • The Youth Small (YS) has a smaller EPS size and can only be adjusted through the pads. Alpinestars' extensive research has shown that children wearing a YS size are very young, typically 3 to 4 years old, and therefore require special helmet fitting.

Construction

  • The multi-density inner lining ensures that the helmet is equipped with the right density in the right area for enhanced impact absorption, while also helping to reduce the overall weight.
  • The inner and outer surfaces are designed to minimize the effects of oblique impacts.
  • Alpinestars' patented low-friction coating is applied to the inner part of the main EPS lining to reduce rotational acceleration forces that may result from certain oblique impacts.
  • Maximized ventilation thanks to 10 intake and seven exhaust ports.
  • The visor is designed to direct air to the ports for enhanced airflow.
  • The patented visor release system ensures that the visor releases with the correct predetermined amount of force, effectively reducing the forces exerted on the rider's neck during an impact.
  • The Comfort lining is made from recycled materials for a lower carbon footprint.
  • The hydration tube channels are integrated into the helmet pads for convenience and performance.
  • The soft fabric chin strap is 25mm for optimal rider safety and comfort.

Protection

  • Alpinestars has introduced a new internal standard for the SM3 Youth to test the chin of the helmet under conditions heavier than the standard, and in order to pass Alpinestars' new standards, the thickness of the shell and the structure of the helmet's design itself have been optimized in the chin area for superior impact performance.
  • Stainless steel D-rings ensure a tight and secure fit.
  • Equipped with an emergency release system and removable pads to allow safe and easy removal of the pads while the helmet is still worn, while the 3D contoured foam ensures rider comfort.
  • The SM3 helmet complies with both DOT certification and ECE 2206 homologation for worldwide use.
