Another famous whisky from Diageo, a company renowned for the fact that all its products are chill-filtered and have no natural color. At first glance, Clynelish 14 can be characterized as one of the most value-for-money whiskies out there. The price of 55-58 euros for a 14-year-old whisky with 46% alcohol (ABV) is indeed a bargain. However, the alcohol percentage is not the only necessary factor for a whisky to be good, as there are other parameters as well.

On the nose, the whisky gives off sea and saltiness. It is not as intense as an Islay whisky, but this is its main characteristic. Behind the saltiness, there are spices and a strong smell of alcohol.

The taste follows suit. The whisky has a strong impact in the mouth, numbing it, and you feel intense dryness and saltiness everywhere. In the background, there is a bit of smoke, then a bit of spiciness, while in the aftertaste you feel a very light malty sensation. The whisky is not smooth at all despite being 14 years old; it is quite nervous and sharp. It "bites" because you feel its alcohol very intensely, something due to the removal of its oils and the lack of the necessary "blanket" to cover it. They say that by nature it is thick and oily, but I disagree. The alcohol dominates the whole mouth and numbs it easily; I did not find any oiliness or protection there.

Overall, for its price, it is an okay whisky, but in terms of quality, it is far from the competition of many other more serious distilleries that have better technical characteristics and better master blenders. But these are Diageo's products; they are aimed at the masses and not at true lovers of the drink.

Quite an interesting malt. On the nose, quite fruity, fresh lemon and ginger, the smoke is present but seems minimal. I'm trying to find the wax but unfortunately, it's nowhere to be found. I heard that in the old versions it was quite pronounced. As for the finish, it is long and the alcohol feels much more than 46 degrees. Overall, a whisky that is worth trying.

It is not a coincidence that Clynelish is the base of J.Walker Gold. Now, a 14-year-old whisky and not being top quality? Oh, and of course it is 46% ABV, which makes it even more honest. Personally, I prefer smokier malts like Ardbeg and Laphroaig, but it is still a top-notch malt. Now, talking about fruits, vanilla, leather, etc. doesn't make sense... The description is NOT what is described... Cheers!

Amazing aroma reminiscent of red wine, intense flavor with a noticeable waxiness to a good extent without being bothersome, and a long aftertaste that gives a slight bitterness at the end, something that may bother some. Personally, I love it and would buy it again at this price.
