Description

Description

This translation of the sacred text of the New Testament is brought to public light with the blessings of the Holy Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Church of Greece, as well as the Patriarchates of Alexandria and Jerusalem. It is a labor of love for the word of God and the result of long-term collective work, carried out with a deep sense of responsibility. The rendering into modern Greek was based on the Ecclesiastical text of the New Testament according to the Patriarchal edition of 1904 and was supported by previous translation work (1985), following serious study and evaluation of the proposals made. This current translation was carried out by the professors of New Testament Interpretation at the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki: P. Vasileiadis, G. Galanis, G. Galitis, G. Karavidopoulos. Consultant on matters of style and language was the philologist and literary scholar Kaiti Chiotelli. In the previous translation work, which was based on the critical text, professors S. Agouridis and V. Stogiannos also participated. In this edition, various oversights have been corrected, color maps and introductions to the individual books have been added, and the glossary has been enriched. The translation of the word of God does not aim to replace the original text but to aid in its understanding. Especially nowadays, when approaching the meanings of the New Testament becomes more difficult due to linguistic distance, the need for translation becomes more urgent. We hope and wish that this translation will bring the redeeming and life-giving word of God closer to the modern Greek, both in Greece and the diaspora, particularly to the studying youth.
