The commemorative volume by journalist and author Stelios Paraskevopoulos titled: “50 Years of Democracy through the Front Pages of Newspapers (1974-2024)” constitutes a significant literary and publishing endeavor dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Metapolitefsi. It is based on the front pages of Greek newspapers that have been published from 1974 to the present and presents, through its brief historical introduction, the archival material of the selected front pages and the detailed timeline, all the events of historical, political, and social value, as well as impact on the life of our country.

There were no victorious or defeated wars, losses or annexations of national territories, annihilation of population groups (genocides), coups, revolutions, civil conflicts, political intolerance, dictatorships, and so on. However, the events that the journalistic gaze recorded during these fifty years gather significant political, economic, and social value – many of them have occupied a special place in the collective national historical memory.” […]

It may have been the penetrating smell of the printed paper that it exuded, the inked imprint it left on my fingers, the crackling sound it released from its depths every time it was flipped and folded. It may have also been its inexhaustible outfit and its constant youth; every day wearing a new dress and fresh face, it had something new to tell you – that you were unaware of. It had something interesting to teach you – that you did not know. And it took you on a journey. It took your mind outside your home and neighborhood, and walked you through your city. It led you on to your country, it raced you through the whole world…” […]
