The Hawker Hurricane was developed in the 1930s as Britain's first low-wing monoplane fighter and is considered one of the main fighters of the RAF during World War II, along with the Supermarine Spitfire.
Its distinctive rear fuselage covered with fabric was durable and simple to produce, with the Mk.I version entering service in late 1937.
Despite the Hurricanes being outperformed compared to the Luftwaffe's Messerschmitt Bf109s, the RAF employed successful tactics where the Spitfires engaged the Bf109s while the Hurricanes pursued the bombers.
Besides the British, the Hurricane was used by a number of other countries, including Finland.
A total of about 15,000 Hurricanes of all types were produced and served with distinction until the end of the war.
