My God, what a horror! The inhabitants of Orléans have been severely struck as the plague has come upon them, bringing pain and misery to the population. There are many dead to mourn, and even the plague doctor can offer only limited relief and hope to the greatly afflicted inhabitants. The clergy also have little to offer in terms of relief. Thus, in the end, everyone is on their own and must try to protect their followers as best as they can.
When using the Orléans: Die Pest / The Plague expansion, the game's conditions become more difficult from the start of the game thanks to the "rat cards." Sometimes there are fewer monks in the game, sometimes mechanisms are not allowed to be placed on location cards, or building trading posts must be paid with an extra coin.
New events are now linked to the "corpse tokens" that players must place a certain number of in their bag at the end of each round. These tokens may be randomly drawn from the bag at the beginning of the round and occupy valuable space in the market, as they cannot be used for any action. To permanently get rid of them, a player can fulfill absolution cards through pilgrimages, donations, or other conditions, which also bring victory points at the end of the game. Fortunately, each player has a "plague doctor," a new figure that is available (almost) every round and can be used universally.
