33 funny stories in 92 illustrated pages in large format. In his cheerful world, Richard Scarry takes us to all continents and invites us to get to know many countries and cities through humorous incidents and illustrations full of details.
Built on the classic principle of fable - the inhabitants of this world are animals - the book offers children a more subtle and always current message. If we were to laugh at the differences between us, often insignificant, wouldn't we discover how similar we are?
"There are all kinds of writers. The best ones write books for children." (Richard Scarry)
The Wheel, the Wheel Around the World. Richard Scarry (1919-1994) is one of the greatest American authors of children's literature. His most famous books are those in the "Busy World" series, a world where the characters - only animals of all kinds - are drivers, builders, police officers, teachers, or scientists, living in houses, driving cars, trains, or planes, going to the mountains, the sea, or museums - all told with a lot of humor.
"I'm not interested in writing a book that will be read once, then forgotten on the shelf. I'm very happy when people show me how they wrapped my books in paper or taped them with tape."
Throughout his career, Richard Scarry wrote and illustrated over 150 books, and most of them are still published worldwide. Generations of children have spent hours with his richly illustrated books in which they have found, like in a mirror, the world they live in, told and drawn in a way they can understand.
