Hiking group: 4-9 years 20 x 26 cm / hardcover book / 28 pages ISBN: 9786068996813 / Year of publication: 2023

It's a beautiful spring day. Tommy and Annika don't have school today. What should they do all day? Let's go to Pippi, she'll surely come up with a great idea, as she usually does.

Pippi Longstocking has a suitcase full of gold coins, and the town, what do you know, is full of shops selling sweets and toys. How about going shopping? says Pippi (who hasn't really been to school, as we know). Tommy, Annika, and about twenty other children who follow them have no objections. A candy (or ten) and a toy (or all from the store) never hurt.

We will find out in the end that it's not quite like that, but the story is not about that, but about generosity, joy, and enthusiasm. Pippi Longstocking is a girl with unseen powers and an endless desire to play, known to children all over the world from the three novels dedicated to her that Astrid Lindgren wrote starting in 1945.

In collaboration with illustrator Ingrid Vang Nyman, Astrid Lindgren also created a series of illustrated books (series that also included "Do You Know Pippi Longstocking?" and "Pippi Longstocking in the Park") with the intention of introducing this beloved character to younger children who cannot yet read a novel on their own but are eager to find out who the extraordinary Pippi is.

The decades-long success of this character among children, regardless of the culture in which they were born, is due not only to the unbridled fantasy and humor in her adventures. Through Pippi, Astrid Lindgren constantly questions what adults do and say. It is a serious game that children need in order to learn to think for themselves.

Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002) is the most famous Swedish writer of children's literature. Her childhood spent on her parents' farm, alongside her brother and two sisters, the love with which she was surrounded, childhood adventures, and games were an endless source of inspiration for her stories and characters.

Astrid Lindgren grew up among books and was a lifelong advocate of reading among children. "A childhood without books is not a childhood. It's like being banished from the enchanted place where you can find joy in its purest form." Her books have been translated into dozens of languages and have been the subject of many adaptations.

After the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, Astrid Lindgren is the most translated author of children's literature.
