The Mark Levinson® № 536 is an amplifier that combines the traditions and artistry of classic Mark Levinson amplifier designs, aiming for a comprehensive sound with:
- Deep, extensive soundstage
- Precise sound placement
- Extended low bass response with good clarity
- Detailed high frequencies without "etched" overtones
The amplifier operates fully differentially and is monophonic, capable of driving any speaker with ease for impeccable imaging, musicality, and transparency. It features direct signal connection, a linear design with low feedback, and amplification stages that operate in Class A, incorporating modern system capabilities via Ethernet, RS-232, and USB for network monitoring and control. Housed in a 6000 series aluminum enclosure, the № 536 is designed and handcrafted in the United States.
The Pure Path circuit design philosophy developed by Mark Levinson since 1972 focuses on absolute sound purity. The core principles include a discrete, direct, fully balanced monophonic signal path that provides unlimited sonic clarity.
Key elements of Pure Path technology in the № 536 are the Folded Cascodes, extremely high current flow, and minimal use of negative feedback.
The Folded Cascode is a design technique that uses two transistors to improve bandwidth and linearity. The design starts with pairs of JFETs selected for their low noise and high gain, and the matching of BJTs helps ensure excellent response and linearity.
The circuit structure of the № 536 has been optimized for the best possible open-loop performance, minimizing the need for negative feedback.
