Description

Flora Tristan (1803-1844), a charming pioneering feminist and socialist, presents a passionate life story like a fairy tale with immediacy and insight.

Her fascinating writings are a unique primary source for the world of the nineteenth century, the time when the Greek Revolution unfolded.

The first book of this volume covers the dangerous and adventurous journey of the young woman from France to Chile and Peru. Women, some French and others Peruvian, parade and speak candidly about their lives, from nuns to presidents of the republic, some dynamic and others passive, but all tormented, as well as rebels and dictators, sailors and slave traders, doctors and plantation owners.

The second text provides a picture of the economic relations and the interdependence of domestic and foreign policy after the Napoleonic Wars.

The third, classic text of labor movement history shows how Tristan first conceived the ideas of the union of all workers, transcending national borders and gender discrimination.

The appendix presents the pioneering currents of socialism and the great figures of the French labor movement.
