Former proud owner of the legendary Nova 5T, heavily used for 5 years, with the battery still comfortably lasting me 1.5-2 days even today. The truth is that I couldn't part with Huawei's EMUI and was troubled by the absence of GMS, so I wasn't in a hurry to change it. The only thing I missed was night video/photo shots.
And here we are today, having read about the microg service (which I was already using on the Nova 5T for Vanced YouTube) and the new capability it offers for GMS. I snagged a deal from Europe and found it for 550 euros, took the risk, and made the transition to the Pura 70 (the basic model).
Okay, I won't say much about screens, cameras, speakers, or device build quality, as they are above the expectations I had. For the cameras, I will only say that I conducted a side-by-side test with friends' flagships under the same conditions at the same time, and in those tests, it easily outperformed the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, S23 Ultra, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14, and OnePlus Nord 3.
So let's get to the burning issue - Google services and Google apps.
(I won't even mention Gbox, as I don't consider it a serious solution, and others have discussed the problems in many reviews)
1. You install microg (directly from Huawei's App Gallery).
2. You open microg from the settings and go to its settings.
3. You find the field and log in to your Google account normally.
4. You download the Aurora Store app from a reliable source (e.g., F-Droid). (From what I've read, it's a clone of the Play Store, I think).
5. You're ready and can install ALL the apps you want normally as if you were in the Play Store, with all their functionalities.
Personally, I first searched for each app in the App Gallery to see if it was available to work directly from Huawei's environment, and then I went to the Aurora Store. One problem I encountered with Viber, even though it is available in the App Gallery, it wouldn't let me authenticate and connect to my account at all; I downloaded it via the Aurora Store, and it works fine (it even restored messages via Google Drive normally).
Known issue:
Google Wallet and Android Auto do not work (indifferent to me).
PROBLEM I encountered (for now):
1. Slightly elevated temperature, probably for now at the beginning until the AI gets to know you.
2. The battery lasted me only 1 day, again probably for now at the beginning until the AI gets to know you. I hope so because it seemed a bit off to me.
3. Although it is available in the microg settings as an option and capability, you probably won't be able to use Google's 2-way verification at all, meaning when you log into your account on any device, you won't receive the notification on your Huawei phone saying "Yes, it's me" or the other option to choose a number. Guys, I think this is an unsolvable problem for me, and anyone whose primary email is Gmail for banks, etc., I don't know how much you would want to lose this capability. Of course, I might not have managed to make it work, even though I tried, anyway.
All the notifications I personally need (e.g., Banks, Revolut, PayPal, Outlook, FB Messenger, Viber, Instagram messages) are currently coming through normally; I haven't noticed anything malfunctioning.
If the price were 800+ euros?
I would probably think about it much more and might have stuck with the old one for another 5 years.
Also, for those who might find it helpful, I was looking for a relatively small phone in dimensions (and not those 160mm+ bricks that are the only ones available and they insist on selling us) and close to the regular price of the Pura 70, you can check out the new Google Pixel 9 Pro (not Pro XL). If it weren't for the EMUI, I would probably go there and save myself the whole hassle with the GMS.
No matter how you look at it, the problem exists, it's noticeable, and unfortunately in Europe, they don't leave us options without them, as very important everyday applications only work with GMS.

Η αλήθεια είναι ότι δεν μπορούσα να αποχωριστώ το EMUI της Huawei και με προβλημάτιζε η απουσία gms, οπότε και δεν καιγόμουν να το αλλάξω. Το μόνο που μου έλειπε ήταν οι νυχτερινές λήψεις βίντεο/φωτογραφίας.
Και ερχόμαστε στο σήμερα, έχοντας διαβάσει για το microg service ( το οποίο και ήδη χρησιμοποιούσα στο nova 5t για το vanced youtube) και τη νέα δυνατότητα που προσφέρει για τα gms. Τσιμπάω και μια ευκαιρία από ευρώπη και το βρίσκω στα 550 ευρώ και πήρα το ρίσκο και έκανα την μετάβαση στο pura 70 (το απλό).
Ντάξει δεν θα πω πολλά για οθόνες, κάμερες, ηχεία, κατασκευή συσκευής, καθώς είναι πάνω των προσδοκιών που είχα. Για τις κάμερες θα πω μόνο ότι έχω κάνει προχωπική δοκιμή με ναυαρχίδες φίλων κάτω από ίδιες συνθήκες την ίδια στιγμή και σε εκείνες τις δοκιμές πάτησε κάτω σαν μυρμηγκάκι τα Pixel 7, pixel 7 pro, S23 ultra, Iphone 13 pro max, Iphone 14, Oneplus nord 3.
Πάμε λοιπόν στο φλέγων θέμα - google services and google apps.
(δεν θα πω καν για το gbox που δεν το θεωρώ σοβαρή λύση και τα προβλήματα τα έχουν πει άλλοι σε πολλά review)
1. Βάζεις το microg (απευθείας από το app gallery της huawei)
2. Ανοίγεις το microg από τα settings και πας στα δικά του settings.
3. Βρίσκεις το πεδίο και κάνεις κανονικότατα log in στο γοογλε λογαριασμό σου.
4. Κατεβάζεις από αξιόπιστη πηγή (πχ. F-droid) την εφαρμογή Aurora Store. (Από οτι έχω διαβάσει, είναι κλώνος του playstore νομίζω).
5. Είσαι έτοιμος και μπορείς να εγκαταστήσεις ΟΛΕΣ τις εφαρμογές που θες κανονικά σαν να ήσουν στο play store και με όλες τις λειτουργίες τους.
Εγώ προσωπικά πρώτα έψαχνα την κάθε εφαρμογή από το app gallery να δω αν υπάρχιε διαθέσιμη ώστε να λειτουργεί κατευθείαν από το περιβάλλον της huawei και μετά πήγαινα στο Αurora store. Ένα πρόβλημα που αντιμετώπισα με το VIBER αν και υπάρχει στο app gallery, δεν με άφηνε με τίποτα να κάνω ταυτοποίηση και να συνδεθώ στον λογαριασμό μου, το κατέβασα μέσω aurora store και δουλεύει κανονικά (έκανε και επαναφορά μηνυμάτων μέσω google drive κανονικά).
Γνωστό πρόβλημα:
Δεν δουλεύει το google wallet και το Android Auto (αδιάφορα για μένα)
ΠΡΟΒΛΗΜΑ που αντιμετώπισα (προς το παρόν):
1. Λίγο αυξημένη θερμοκρασία, μάλλον για τώρα στην αρχή μέχρι να σε μάθει το ΑΙ.
2. Η μπαταρία με έβγαλε μόνο 1 μέρα, και πάλι μάλλον για τώρα στην αρχή μέχρι να σε μάθει το ΑΙ. Ελπίζω δλδ γιατί μου κακοφάνηκε λίγο.
3. Αν και υπάρχει μέσα στα settings του microg σαν επιλογή και δυνατότητα, μάλλον δεν θα μπορείς με τίποτα να χρησιμοποιήσεις το 2-way verification της google, δηλαδή όταν συνδέεσαι στο account σου σε οποιαδήποτε συσκευή, να σου έρχεται η ειδοποίηση στο Huawei κινητό σου " Ναι, είμαι εγώ" ή το άλλο να επιλέξεις αριθμό. Παιδιά αυτό για μένα νομίζω είναι άλυτο πρόβλημα και όποιος έχει σαν βασικό του email το gmail για τράπεζες κτλ, δεν ξέρω κατά πόσο θα θέλατε να χάσετε αυτή την δυνατότητα. Βέβαια μπορεί να μην το κατάφερα εγώ να δουλέψει, αν και προσπάθησα, anyway.
Όλες οι ειδοποιήσεις που προσωπικά χρειάζομαι (π.χ Tράπεζες, revolut, paypal, outlook, fb messenger, viber, instagram messages) προς το παρόν μου έρχονται κανονικά, δεν έχω παρατηρήσει το οτιδήποτε σε υπολειτουργία τους.
Αν η τιμή του ήταν 800+ ευρώ?
Μάλλον θα το σκεφτόμουν πολύ παραπάνω και ίσως να έμενα με το παλιό για ακόμα 5 χρόνια.
Επίσης για όσους μπορεί να βοηθήσει, εγώ που έψαχνα σχετικά μικρό κινητό σε διαστάσεις (και όχι αυτά τα 160mm+ παντόφλες που υπάρχουν μόνο και θέλουν ντε και καλά να μας πουλήσουν) και κοντά στην κανονική τιμή του pura 70, μπορείτε να δείτε το νέο Google Pixel 9 pro (oxi pro xl). Αν δεν ήταν το emui, μάλλον θα πήγαινα εκεί και θα γλίτωνα την όλη χασούρα με τα gms.
Όπως και να το κάνουμε, το πρόβλημα υπάρχει, είναι αισθητό και δυστυχώς στην ευρώπη δεν μας αφήνουν επιλογές για χωρίς αυτά, καθώς πολύ σημαντικές καθημερινές εφαρμογές συνεργάζοντια μόνο με gms.
