The Athenian playwright Aristophanes, in his comedy "The Wasps," performed on stage in 422 BC, satirizes the litigant mentality of the Athenians and the state of their courts. Instead, his goal is to restore the institution, which had evolved from a public oversight and justice mechanism into a pursuit driven by meager wages and an opportunity for some citizens’ vanity to be flattered.
