The twin-engine Fokker F-27 Friendship was developed during the 1950s by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer to provide a valid successor to the old traditional piston-engine Douglas DC-3 in operation since World War II.
The Fokker F-27 achieved good commercial success in both civil and military applications and was even manufactured under license in the United States.
Thanks to the two Rolls-Royce turboprop engines with 2,250 Hp, the Fokker managed to reach a maximum speed of 460 Km/h.
From the start of its production, it was adopted by many airlines who found it the best solution for short-distance routes.
The adoption of two turboprop engines, compared to traditional piston engines, reduced vibrations and provided improved comfort on the aircraft.
The airplane was very versatile and was widely used for freight transport activities, troop transport duties, and maritime patrol.
