Very easy installation directly on the mobile (no PC needed), without passwords and connections to external servers, with relatively good image quality, especially in night mode. Attention!!! The app works normally even outside the house without the need to open ports on the router or connect via VPN, so it communicates with some Reolink servers, but you don’t need to log in with your own credentials (email and password) unless you want to (e.g. for cloud recordings). The connection is either via ethernet or wifi, both 2.4 and 5GHz, but only up to wifi4 (N) and without wpa3. In terms of distance, one camera is connected to 2.4GHz wifi at 20 meters and three rooms away from the router and works just fine.
On the positive side (for iPhone), push notifications, email alerts, and alarm recordings to SD card work correctly. Especially notifications can be set as critical so they have sound on the lock screen even if the phone is in silent mode.
The app is easy to use, shows all cameras in a grid live view, and also allows you to create users who can only view the cameras on other devices.
It also has the option for automatic live updates as well as enabling RTSP and ONVIF for connecting the cameras to NVR or camera management apps (like those on NAS), but I haven’t tested this so I don’t know how well it works.
Note that once the cameras are set up, the app finds them automatically and you only need to add their username and password to connect to them.
On the negative side, what really bothered me is that I didn’t find an option for power off or at least to disable motion, pet, and person detection on the cameras, so I have to unplug them when someone is in the area (I find masking cumbersome), which is not always feasible if access to the cameras is difficult. I solved this with cheap smart plugs.
Also, I didn’t find an option in the app for manual IP addresses, but this can easily be solved with address reservation on the router, although these are the first cameras where I didn’t need to do this because everything worked fine without VPN.
Finally, note that they don’t have their own UI, but I don’t think you expect something like that anymore in cameras of this price category or even need it, if you just want to monitor your space and receive timely notifications when something goes wrong, wherever you are.
As for build quality and durability, I can’t say anything because I’ve only had the cameras for 2 days. The reason I’m writing the review so early and so thoroughly is that unfortunately it’s no longer easy to find complete and reliable information about cameras regarding their features and operation (it took me 15 days searching the internet for each feature separately and I hadn’t found information for everything I was looking for), and I thought this might help someone who is searching.
Update 29/9/2025
Now, after an update, it also has a privacy mode which, when activated, stops the transmission of video and audio, so you don’t need to unplug it
