The history of workers, women, and minorities has challenged the once undeniable dominance of narratives of great leaders and military victories. Subsequently, cultural studies offered new perspectives, but these too have run their course. With globalization emerging as a significant economic, cultural, and political force, Lynn Hunt examines whether it can renew the narrative of history. At the same time, she proposes a broad re-evaluation of individual action and the position of individuals in society as key factors for understanding how people and ideas interact.
