The book "Cave and Worship in Ancient Greece" brings together a series of serious studies that contribute to archaeology and the contemporary understanding of the character and significance of cave sanctuaries in the first millennium BC in the Mediterranean. Composed by emerging and established archaeologists and researchers, the book employs a variety of approaches and methodologies to explore and interpret the material assemblages from the caves, many of which are presented here for the first time. An introductory section examines the emergence and development of caves as centers of worship and religion. Their main chapters explore some of the concepts related to cave sites and offerings such as ceramic figurines and pottery, as well as those who created and used them. The authors use sensory and ethno-racial approaches, discuss the identity of pilgrims, and the contribution of statistical analysis to the role of offerings.
