Description

Description

The world is becoming increasingly homogeneous. The most intense spiritual impression from every journey I've taken in recent years, despite some happy surprises along the way, is an underlying horror at the homogenization of the world. Everything is becoming uniform in the external expressions of life, everything is flattened into a homogeneous cultural shape. The particular customs of peoples are being erased, clothing is becoming standardized, and morals are being internationalized. Countries appear similar to one another, the life and actions of people are integrated into the same framework, and their cities are increasingly similar in their external characteristics.

For if humanity today is becoming ever more tedious and uniform, it is because, deep down, this is its desire. Autonomy in the way of life, even in the enjoyment of life, has become a goal and ideal for such a few people that most do not even realize they are being transformed into particles, into individuals swept away by the vortex of a gigantic force. They are thus left to the warmth of the current, which carries them into the void. "Ruere in servitium," as Tacitus said, to rush willingly into slavery.
