GANT is a Swedish retail clothing company with American roots. It was founded in 1949 by Bernard Gantmacher and initially based in New Haven, Connecticut. Gantmacher worked in a garment factory, focusing on shirt manufacturing. In 1949, the GANT brand was launched for the first time, known for the button at the back of the collar, the loop, and the pleat. In the 1960s, he created the Yale co-op shirt exclusively for the store at Yale University. In the early 1980s, GANT entered the international market and in 2019 celebrated 70 years in the apparel industry.
