Kanavos sandalwood essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the bark of the Amyris Balsamifera plant. It has a clear, yellowish-brown appearance and a warm, sweet, woody aroma. It is used in aromatherapy, perfumery, and as an ingredient in personal care products such as soaps, creams, and lotions.
To scent a room, add 3–4 drops with a little water to a ceramic essential oil burner. For use in the bath, add 2–9 drops to the bathtub. For topical use, dilute 30–40 drops in 100 ml of carrier oil.
