More than 5 years since its debut, Il Cremonese remains one of the most popular audio systems in the Sonus faber collection. Initially introduced with the intention of completing the Homage collection, due to its exceptional capability, this speaker was immediately placed among the Reference series in the Sonus faber catalog, which exceptionally expresses the brand's excellence.
This particular preference transformed Il Cremonese into the perfect platform for one of the most important activities in electroacoustic design: experimentation. This is the birth of a unique speaker system, enriched with the return of a historic Sonus faber finish: the classic “Red Violin”.
With the main work focused on the behavior at both ends of the sound spectrum, it was possible to extract a performance that avoids any form of interpretation of the musical message so that Il Cremonese ex3me can even be used as an extremely high-performance professional studio monitor.
The new audio system came to life with the fusion of elements belonging to the original design, such as the midrange and woofers, with the most iconic solution derived from the speaker model designed to celebrate the company's 30th anniversary, Ex3ma.
From the Ex3ma, Il Cremonese ex3me inherited the Beryllium DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) tweeter. Sonus faber abandoned the classic silk diaphragm tweeter to approach this transducer construction. Brilliant in terms of transparency and microdynamics, the Beryllium tweeter has incredibly natural characteristics, but its sonic presence is often described as having a “metallic taste” that can often make listening unpleasant.
To mitigate this typical characteristic of Beryllium, a treatment called “Chemical Vapor Deposition” was used. A layer of D.L.C. is deposited on the diaphragm surface, making it black and giving Beryllium some of the typical properties of diamond—the most important being its amorphous nature and unparalleled strength. As a result, the new diaphragm is increasingly rigid with an almost unimaginably higher fundamental frequency, making it capable of producing extremely fast, highly detailed, and airy sound—free from coloration.
