The vineyards of Villa Maria are among the most renowned and top-rated in New Zealand. Founded in 1961 by Mr. George Fistonich, the Villa Maria estate has received more accolades than any other vineyard in New Zealand since 1980, both domestically and internationally.
In 2004, the owner of the vineyard decided not to seal the bottle with cork but with stelvin, and it is believed that the great success of the vineyard is also due to the bottling process.
Some of the estate's accolades include being awarded as one of the world's top 50 vineyards by Wine Spectator magazine.
