Lanolin is a yellow, waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals, primarily sheep. It is often mistakenly referred to as fat, but it is actually wax.
The main source is sheep wool, and it is extracted by pressing the wool in rollers or by boiling it.
PROPERTIESIt nourishes and waterproofs the animal's hair while retaining internal moisture, preventing skin dehydration. It can absorb water up to twice its weight.
It is used as a moisturizing and softening agent or in its pure form. It is oil-soluble, making it ideal as an emulsifier, replacing wax in care creams, up to 10% of the final product.
