The LIFES * Version 1.0 is a regenerative feedback amplifier that rejuvenates music. Utilizing feedback only from the distortion element produced within the amplifier’s circuit arrangement to the main amplifier, Luxman’s unique "ODNF *" circuit design achieves highly static characteristics and delivers natural sound quality, similar to a feedback-free system. During the development of the flagship M-10X amplifier released in 2021, this technical concept remained unchanged, and the circuit structure, which had been expanded over many years, was rebuilt from scratch, resulting in high-quality audio capable of supporting next-generation components.
The L-509Z is equipped with "LIFES Version 1.0" simultaneously in both fully discrete preamplification and amplification units. As a fully integrated amplifier suitable for the "one-body separate" concept—integrating the quality of a standalone amplifier into a single chassis—it has achieved high musicality with an unprecedented circuit design scale. The final stage adopts a Darlington 4-parallel push-pull three-stage configuration with bipolar transistors. It delivers from 120W + 120W when connected to an 8Ω speaker to 240W + 240W when connected to a 4Ω speaker, achieving high output efficiency and perfect power linearity comparable to that of a separate amplifier, resulting in magnificent, energetic sound.
The electronically controlled attenuator LECUA-EX *, which incorporates a precise rotation mechanism, is essential for audio amplifiers. To send a musical signal at a level suitable for listening through an amplifier with stable gain, a mechanism is required to smoothly reduce the voltage while maintaining source quality. LECUA is an electronically controlled attenuator system that independently switches high-quality fixed resistors for each channel, arranged on the circuit board according to the volume control position. Since its release with the control amplifier C-1000f in 2006, the "LECUA1000" has experienced extremely minimal changes in sound quality due to external vibrations and volume position, and is less susceptible to degradation over time.
The L-509Z combines a high-precision rotor with a new balancing weight mechanism to realize the "LECUA-EX," achieving even greater reliability and a natural, high-quality tactile feel. With 88 fine adjustments from 0 to 87 dB, the rotation speed of the volume knob and the setting that speeds up volume increase/decrease when holding the remote control allow for comfortable and meticulous volume adjustments without compromising sound quality.
The L-509Z features a large-capacity, high-inertia power supply section. This power supply section requires immediate power provision and high voltage stability. It is equipped with Luxman’s traditional high-inertia power circuit with a 600VA EI-type transformer and a newly developed large-capacity block of capacitors (10,000μF x 8).
The high-quality preamplifier circuit supports MM/MC and has adopted a new two-step high/low gain switch for the MC position. A muting switch is also installed on the main unit, supporting high-quality playback of discs both in terms of operation and sound quality.
The 3-band tone control includes new MID positions suitable for detailed adjustments.
