The marbling technique is inspired by the ancient Japanese art of marbling on paper from the 11th century (Sumi nagashi) and similar bookbinding techniques in Europe during the 19th century. It involves transferring colors by making contact with the surface to be decorated. Marbling can be used on surfaces such as fabrics, paper, cardboard, recycled paper, wood, plaster, etc. When used on fabric, iron the fabric after dyeing to fix the colors.

The marbling reaction basin with the thickening medium can be used multiple times for continuous projects. However, it is recommended to use a small amount of thickening agent and change the water frequently. It is advised to run test courses before decorating the final object. The medium is intended for preparing the basin with water and colors. Available in 9 shades.

Preparation Instructions for the Basin and Marbling Technique

• The basin with the thickening medium and water should be prepared in advance.
• Add 2 teaspoons (7g) of Pebeo Marbling Thickening Medium into 1 liter of cold water.
• Mix very well and let the mixture sit for 2 hours.
• Pour 1 to 2 centimeters of the mixture into a plastic basin or tray larger than the object you wish to decorate.
• Using the dropper, add a few drops of your chosen colors into the basin with water. Ideally, alternate between light and dark colors.
• Allow the colors to spread slightly before using a stick or straw to create your designs.
• You can create various patterns with the stick, such as stripes, combed patterns, etc.
• After completing your desired designs, carefully press the object, paper, or fabric onto the surface of the mixture.
• Leave it for 10 to 15 seconds and then remove it.
• Quickly rinse with water to remove any remaining mixture, gel, and excess colors.
• Place the decorated object on a flat surface and let it dry.
