Thematic Unit: The book examines the period from the founding of the Byzantine Empire (early Middle Ages) up to the early 20th century.

Content: Students study the history of the Byzantine Empire, Ottoman rule, the Greek War of Independence and the creation of the modern Greek state, as well as important European developments of the era (e.g. Renaissance, Enlightenment, Industrial Revolution).

Structure: Each chapter includes texts, maps, rich visual material (images, tables, diagrams) and excerpts from historical sources, which help in better understanding of the material.
