Volume 19 of Series II of the New Edition Liszt contains piano transcriptions of Beethoven's Symphonies No. 8 and 9, written in 1863. Liszt himself noted that the transcriptions of the symphonies are not mere reductions for piano, but piano scores ('partitions de piano'), which not only include the notes of the transcribed works but are able to convey the overall effect and spirit of the pieces. The EMB edition is the only one that adheres to Liszt's explicit intention, correcting the transcriptions in many places to align with the original works (the scores of Beethoven). This volume completes the new edition of the transcriptions of the symphonies, and those interested now have access to all the transcriptions.
