Description

Description

The History of Archaeological Photography examines not only the evolution of archaeological photography in Greece from its inception to the present, that is, until the replacement of analog photography with digital photography, but also the historical and archaeological data of each era that are reflected in the photographic medium.

It is developed in two parts and an appendix: In addition to a general presentation of the History of Photography in general, specific chapters explore particular topics related to the emergence of archaeological photography, its purpose in different eras, the interaction between photography and its time, the contribution of photographer-archaeologist to the evolution of photography as a historical document and as a means of artistic expression, among others.

This book fills a gap in research, as the history of photography in Greece has been studied extensively, but not archaeological photography. The second part examines specific areas of archaeological photography, such as the photographing of monuments, archaeological sites, and sculptures.

The book concludes with the findings and the appendix.
