Description

Description

If Oedipus was the son of fate, the most blind one determined by the gods in the course of the fall of a throne and the misfortune of his people, Thanassis the New Hellene, on the other end of the Greek dualism of wandering, is a child of blind necessity, but not the “ripe child of rage”...

Like his cousin, Karagiozis, Thanassis does not settle under the flags of any revolution; fate has no place in his own horizon. At some point, Karagiozis climbs onto the screen, and Thanassis Veggos on the cinema screen, leaving their viewer, Thanassis the New Hellene, and there on the white sheet, they become anarchists with or without black flags...

The first edition of this book, with the same title it bears now, was published in 2000. With the title Thanassis Veggos and the subtitle of the current title, it was published in 2017, completed until Thanassis’s death. The current edition aims to be definitive, with the return of the original title and cover, with several supplementary elements, mainly testimonies from my film A Man for All Seasons and with the current preface, which maps the history of the book but also the history of my relationship with Thanassis Veggos.

In that first one, from 2000, the first to flip through it was Thanassis. Since then, much has happened and he enriched his filmography and passed away. I have also enriched the book.
