The Red3 utilizes a four-piece OTL cantilever featuring a diamond specific to Grado, mounted on a steel vulcanized cable. These turntable cartridges are manually selected from production runs that meet higher testing specifications. Grado's OTL technology, meaning optimized transmission line, provides ideal signal transfer from the surface of the LP to the system's generator. This technology rejects unwanted resonances and reduces distortion, preserving the fundamental and harmonic frequencies of the music. It also helps minimize noise produced by the motor system at the cartridge. In the design of Grado's OTL stylus/cantilever, records sound quieter, enhances height, width, and depth of the soundstage, while presenting more detail than was previously available. The Red3s are all hand-assembled by our team in Brooklyn, with some manufacturers having over 25 years of experience. With the recent development of the Lineage series, we managed to have a flow of technology and introduce a new technique to the Red3s. This updated series of cartridges offers exceptional tonal balance, dynamics, and realism, for an extremely satisfying reproduction of voices and instruments. The coil winding techniques, using ultra-pure copper wire, have allowed the electrical circuits to achieve coherence among the four coils in each cartridge. This enables precise balance between channels and accurate stereo imaging. As with all Grado cartridges, the Red3s are powered by a twin magnet system that optimizes the balance between the stereo channels. All internal magnetic circuits compete at extremely high limits, creating the desired stereo image. Grado's Flux-Bridger design allows the Red3s to have one of the lowest effective moving mass systems while achieving excellent balance across the frequency range. The development of the Epoch in the Lineage series gave us an in-depth experience in using an external shell as a damping device. This led to the creation of a process that decouples the chassis and disperses unwanted energy and resonances, allowing the desired signal to travel freely.
