The educational series Dr STEM aims to assist educators and students (ages 8 and up) to engage in "STE(A)M skills" as required by the 21st-century economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and to develop Mind Skills with an emphasis on Computational Thinking.
The suggested educational activities presented in the 4th book of the series A technologically modern “deus ex machina” in the Skills Laboratory are implemented through the holistic STE(A)M approach with objectives: • understanding the role of the “deus ex machina”, • constructing a model of a theatrical stage, • creating a modern technological “deus ex machina”, • using the micro:bit computing platform and developing code, • using the Arduino UNO computing platform and developing code, • familiarizing with processes of study, design, development, and evaluation.

The acronym STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) is used to define the concept of a holistic approach to learning through five academic disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
Art in its various forms becomes an important part of STEAM education, as imagination and creativity are the basis for fostering innovation while simultaneously contributing to the development of critical thinking.
STEAM frames the way a child's mind learns as it explores the world while also contributing to the development of Computational Thinking! We all understand that addressing a problem rarely requires just one set of knowledge, such as only mathematics, or only physics or chemistry. For example, imagine an architect who, in order to design complex and safe buildings, utilizes a combination of various sciences such as technology, engineering, art, and mathematics!
Therefore, STEAM is the integration and inclusion of diverse knowledge and scientific fields. Through the STEAM educational approach, students apply the natural sciences, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, aiming either to find solutions to real problems, to understand natural phenomena, or to develop appropriate skills that will help them be competitive in the ever-changing job market of the 21st century.
Consequently, STEAM encompasses the four elements recognized as fundamental in 21st-century education: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Communication. STEAM education is now essential, as over 30 professions will require STEAM knowledge in the near future!
