The day Nisa disappeared, we went to the mountains. All three of us wore our hiking boots and waited for the bus that goes up to the Troodos Mountains, which passes twice a day. Normally, Nisa would go out alone like every Sunday, but this time, for the first time, she decided to come along with Alice and me. Oh, how beautiful it was up there! The autumn fog mingled with the ferns, pines, and the turner oaks. These mountains emerged from the sea when the African and European tectonic plates collided. You can even see the Earth's oceanic crust. The rock formations, with their veins and layers of lava, look like they are wearing snake skin. I love thinking about beginnings. Like in that story my aunt used to tell in the backyard: When the Creator finished making the world –Stone, listen!– He dropped the clay balls that were left in his hands, and they fell into the sea, forming this island.
